Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS)
What is the Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS)?
PASS is a centralized application service, which has been designed by the American Dental Education Association for individuals applying to postdoctoral dental education programs. PASS provides participating postdoctoral programs uniform standardized information, eliminating the need for multiple applications. Postdoctoral dental programs benefit by receiving uniform information on all candidates.
Many of the programs that are participating in the Matching Program also participate in the PASS. Registering for the Matching Program will not automatically register you with PASS, nor do you need to be registered with PASS before you can register with the Matching Program.
Note: Your registration with the Matching Program does not constitute an application to any of the programs participating in the Matching Program.
Which postdoctoral programs can participate?
PASS can work for all the postgraduate dental programs including GPRs, AEGDs and the nine recognized specialty areas. There is no cost to the participating program.
What are the benefits of PASS?
PASS will benefit all the participants in the postgraduate dental admissions process.
Students will benefit from PASS because it enables them to apply to all participating postdoctoral programs by completing a single application.
Program directors will benefit from PASS because they will no longer have to manage the details to the application process for each applicant to their program. They will receive information on their applicants in a standardized format. In addition, they will receive their applicant material at specified times as opposed to on a random basis. They will also receive materials that will help them manage their applicant pool such as rosters, mailing labels and summary reports.
How does PASS work?
Upon inquiry, the applicant receives application materials from PASS. These materials include an application booklet, instruction booklet and forms for letters of evaluation.
Program directors receive a complete application. The application includes:
- Applicant folder
- Applicant essay and explanation of questions on research, teaching and other relevant experiences Letters of recommendation
- Copies of official transcripts (dental school and undergraduate)
- Address labels
Program directors will also receive supporting materials with each shipment to help them to manage their applicant pool. These supporting materials include:
- Applicant rosters for new applicants and cumulative applicant rosters
- Acknowledgment cards for notifying applicants if additional materials are needed
